Facilities in a Boundary for HDMapper™

Q:  How can I show just the Fixed Facilities in my county on a map?

A:  With TAP6.0.2236 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of April 30, 2008, or later, you can select a polygon-type boundary object (such as a county, urban area, etc.) in HDMapper to use as a filter for selecting Fixed Facility records to draw on the map.  (If you want to draw all the Fixed Facility record locations on the map, use the “TAP6 Facility Points” function.)

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

For example, suppose you have a map drawn as shown in HDMapper, and you want to draw the locations of the Fixed Facilities in Jefferson County.  First, select the map layer that contains the shape you want to use.  In this case, the CO_Counties layer would be used.  Click the layer in the legend to highlight it.

With the desired layer selected, click the “Show Fixed Facilities in selected area” button:”

The yellow prompt will appear above the map.  Click the boundary object you want to use:

The program will display a list of all of the facilities in your TAP Fixed Facility database.  You can use the check-boxes to select or de-select records to be plotted.  The buttons at the top of the form are used to select or de-select all records in the list.

Click the Continue button on the “Select Fixed Facility Records” form.

The locations of the selected records will be displayed on the map.

The symbol and color used is determined by the “Point Symbols Configuration” settings.

If the selected polygon area (in this case, Jefferson County) is not completely displayed on the map, some Fixed Facility locations may not be shown until you zoom or pan the map to display them:

You can use the “Symbol Editing” function to select locations and label them.
