TAP™ is a Windows application and can run on any 64-bit Windows desktop computer (e.g., Win 7, Win 8, Win 10, Win 11) and Windows Server; however, new users are strongly encouraged to use Windows 10 or Windows 11. Windows 7 is no longer supported by Microsoft. SoftWright no longer backtests new software releases for Windows 7 or Windows XP operation.
Any modern computer hardware will suffice for running TAP™. However, if your elevation data will reside on an external hard drive, then performance will be much better using a USB-3 port for accessing the external drive rather than USB-2 and the best performance will be provided when the elevation data are stored on a Solid State (SSD) external drive. Fortunately, USB-3 ports are now standard on most computers and pre-loaded SSDs are available from SoftWright. If your elevation data will be stored on the local hard drive, then performance will be improved with a high-speed internal SSD.
In order to get the best performance out of the latest TAP™ software, it is recommended that computers have at least 8 GB of RAM.
TAP™ will take advantage of multiple processor cores for parallel processing to improve study calculation speed. More processors cores may result in faster calculations.
