Loading Earlier Versions in HDSpectrum™
Q: How do I load an intermod database from TAP4 or TAP5 into HDSpectrum?
A: HDSpectrum is completely compatible with intermod database files used with earlier versions of TAP.
The TAP Intermod module (including HDSpectrum) reads a general database format (the “intermod database” file) and then can use that file to create a database of frequencies for an intermodulation study (a “Task” than can be run by TAP). This approach enables you to use a particular intermod database to create many different studies with different parameters and intermod settings.
(Note that all values and settings in this article are for illustration purposes only. You should determine the appropriate settings for your application using good engineering judgment.)
You can open the intermod database from the File menu in HDSpectrum by selecting “Open File”:
You can browse to a desired folder to find the file you want to open. For example, the TUTIMOD file in the INTERMOD folder is used for intermod tutorial files:
When you open the file, HDSpectrum displays the records in the file (including transmit and/or receiver frequencies, number of harmonics, etc.). HDSpectrum also displays a graphic representation of the frequencies, with transmit frequencies in red and receive frequencies in green:
Note that since this is the intermod database (or source) file, it is not associated with a particular intermod study or Task. The Task information near the top of the form (Task ID and Task Description) is blank.
Note that after you have loaded a file with the Open File menu, the same file can be opened again later from a list of the most recent files in the menu:
HDSpectrum keeps a list of the five most recent files used.
