TAP6 Facility Import (Excel)

Q:  How can I import an Excel spreadsheet into the Fixed Facility database?

A:  You can import an Excel (.XLS) or comma-delimited ASCII (.CSV) file into the TAP Fixed Facility database by saving the file as a dBase IV (.dbf) file.

For example, suppose you have an Excel file that contains the required Fixed Facility fields for import:

Note that for versions of TAP later than 6.0.2166 (April 11, 2007) you can open and import Excel .XLS and .CSV files directly into the TAP Fixed Facility Database (if the files have the correct field headers as described above).

The rest of this FAQ is only necessary for earlier versions of TAP. You can download and install the updated version from our website so you can import the files directly.

Note also that with TAP6.0.2182 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of June 30, 2007, or later, you can use the Import Template Utility to create empty Excel files formatted for the import.

In the Excel menu, click File and select SaveAs.  The SaveAs dialog box is displayed:

Use the “Save as Type” list near the bottom of the form to select “DBF 4” and click the Save button.

A warning message will be displayed about the differences in the file format.  Since we want to save in the dBase format, click the Yes button.

The file will be saved as a .dbf file that can be imported into the Fixed Facility database.
