HDMapper™ Refresh Option

Q:  When I make several changes to a coverage map, how can I have it redraw only when I have made all the changes?

A:  With TAP6.0.2309 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of May 31, 2009, or later, you can use the “AutoDraw Map” option to have more control over the redrawing function.

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

By default, HDMapper refreshes the map each time you make a change, such as the layer colors, layer visibility, adding a layer, etc.  However, with a complicated or detailed map, the redraw process can take several seconds.  If you want to make several changes, you can disable the “AutoDraw Map” option so you can make changes and only refresh the map when you are ready.

For example, suppose you have a coverage study displayed as shown below.  (This study includes over one million computed tile locations, so refreshing the map takes several seconds.)

Under the Configuration menu, be sure the “AutoDraw Map” item is unchecked.  If it is checked, click it to uncheck the item.  Clicking again will toggle the check back on.

With the “AutoDraw Map” item unchecked, you can make changes as shown below, such as moving the layers in the order, changing the field strength levels shown on the map, changing the fill and border for the “Urban Areas” layer, making the county layer fill transparent above the coverage layer, etc.  The changes are made in the legend, but the map is not refreshed.  Note that the “Refresh Map” button on the toolbar near the top of the map changes to a red background if changes have been made in the legend but not applied to the map.

When you want to draw the map with the changes applied, click the “Refresh Map” button and the map is redrawn.
