HDCoverage™ Map Options

Q:  How can I show a map of a previously computed coverage when I am setting up a new coverage study?

A:  With TAP6.0.2329 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of December 31, 2009, or later, you can load a previous coverage study into the map displayed in HDCoverage.  You can also remove layers from the map.

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

HDCoverage is the TAP function used to set up area coverage studies.  A map is included on the form to assist you in locating the fixed facility base station site and the coverage area to be computed.

With the version and Maintenance Subscription specified above, you can use the Map menu and select “Add Coverage Layer” to show a previously computed coverage on the map:

On the “Task to Open” form that is displayed, select the coverage study you want to add and click the Continue button:

The previously computed results will be displayed:

The coloring of the coverage is based on the Required Field value used when the study was computed, which may be different from the Required Field value of the currently selected Mobile Facility you are using to set up a new study.  The green areas show the locations where the computed field strength for the previous study met the required field specification.  The red area shows the locations where the required field value was not met.

You can also remove the added layer (or any of the other layers on the map) by selecting the “Remove Active Layer” option in the Map menu:

You will be prompted to confirm the removal of the layer:

You can remove other layers from the map as well by setting the “Active Layer”

Click the layer you want to remove on the “Select Active Layer” form:

(For this function it is not necessary to select the field in the layer, shown when you expand the list items with the + box on each line.)

Now when you select the “Remove Active Layer” option, that layer will be the “active” layer:

Note that this function only removes the layer from the map for this session.  If you want to change the default configuration for layers loaded based on the Fixed Facility coordinates, use the “Set Layers for HDCoverage” option.
