TAP™ Multi-Seat Performance
Q: How does the TAP running as a multi-seat license compare with single-seat systems?
A: With TAP6.0.2363 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of September 30, 2010, or later, you can purchase a TAP license configured for either single-seat or multi-seat operation.
Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only. You should determine appropriate settings for your application.
A comparison of single- and multi-seat TAP systems is described in TAP Single-Seat and Multi-Seat Systems.
Installing additional users to use TAP with the multi-seat license is described in Adding TAP Multi-seat Users.
The use of a multi-seat TAP system is described in Multi-Seat Operation of TAP.
The TAP multi-seat license system is installed on a server, with individual users accessing the software from their workstations or remote desktops. No client software is needed on the workstations, and all processing is done on the server machine.
The following brief table illustrates the effect of multiple TAP studies being run simultaneously in a multi-seat system. The multi-seat system was installed on a remote server (Windows Server 2003 R2, SP2, 3.2GHz, 4Gb), accessed via Terminal Services Remote Desktop connections. The TAP Area Coverage study was a tile study out 30km from the transmitter facility, with field strength values computed at a total of approximately 40,000 locations:
Simultaneous TAP Coverage Studies |
Running Time |
1 |
981 |
2 |
1564 |
3 |
2375 |
While running multiple studies on the multi-seat license naturally affects the performance, note that the running time is less than running two (or three) studies sequentially on a single-seat system.
