Set Antenna Mounting for Path

Q:  How can I set the Fixed Facility antenna orientation and tilt values for a particular path?

A:  With TAP6.0.2334 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of February 28, 2010, or later, you can automatically set the transmit and receive facility antenna mounting parameters based on the path parameters in HDPath.

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

In the TAP Fixed Facility database, the antenna mounting parameters of the orientation in the horizontal plane and tilt in the vertical plane can be set manually by entering the appropriate values in the Fixed Facility interface:

When a path profile is drawn in HDPath, the forward and back azimuths and the tilt angles are displayed above the path profile:

HDPath includes two buttons to automatically insert the appropriate values into the Fixed Facility records.

To insert the forward azimuth and tilt values into the Transmit Antenna mounting parameters for the Fixed Facility representing the transmitting facility (the left side of HDPath), click the “Set TX antenna for path” button:

The antenna orientation value is set to the forward azimuth.  The mechanical tilt is set to the forward tilt, and the tilt azimuth is set to the forward azimuth.  The electrical tilt value is cleared.

To insert the reverse azimuth and tilt values into the Primary Receiver Antenna mounting parameters for the Fixed Facility representing the receiving facility (the right side of HDPath), click the “Set RX antenna for path” button:

Note that if any of the antenna mounting parameters are non-blank, a warning is displayed indicating the changes that will be made:

To accept the changes, click OK.  To abandon the changes, click Cancel.

The antenna orientation value is set to the reverse azimuth.  The mechanical tilt is set to the reverse tilt, and the tilt azimuth is set to the reverse azimuth.  The electrical tilt value is cleared.
