Talkback Settings

Q:  How can I be sure my coverage setup for a study includes all of the parameters needed later for the Talk-back study?

A:  With TAP6.0.2159 or later you can include a test for Talk-back settings when you save the study

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

HDCoverage™ is the function used in TAP to set up the parameters for an area coverage study.  TAP uses the computed path losses determined in the coverage (or “talk-out”) study, as well as the base and mobile transmitter and receiver specifications to compute the “talk-back” (or “talk-in”) coverage.

If you compute a talk-out coverage study and do not include all of the parameters for the talk-back study, you cannot use that covera study later to compute the talk-back service.  For example, the base station (the “fixed facility”) receiver sensitivity is not needed for a talk-out coverage study.  But if that information is not included in the original study, the talk-back cannot be computed, since the base station receiver sensitivity is required.

If you typically want to compute talk-back as well as talk-out, you can use the HDCoverage “Configuration” menu “Warning for Talkback Settings”  item to include a test for the required parameters when you save a study setup.

When you click that menu to mark it with a check, the Task for the coverage study cannot be saved unless all the required talk-back parameters have been included.

For example, suppose you have a Fixed Facility record selected that does not include the receiver information, and the “Warning for Talkback Settings” item is checked.

If you try to save the Task, the following warning will be displayed:

The message will include information on which parameters must be entered.  If you want to run the study without the talkback parameters, you can uncheck the “Warning for Talkback Settings” item in the menu and run the study.  Be sure to check the menu item again if you want future coverage study Tasks to be tested for the talkback parameters.
