New .FLT Format - Updated USGS National Elevation Dataset Files
Q: How are the National Elevation Dataset (NED) files from the USGS available from SoftWright?
A: TAP 4.5 and later, using TopoScript data access and a Maintenance Subscription date of February 29, 2012, or later can read the NED- .FLT format files. These files contain updated data from what was previously available in the older NED - .BIL formatted data.
The graphic below shows the location of the "off the shelf" NED files for the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Custom files can also be prepared. A listing of the old .BIL formatted data is also available showing the exact limits for each file. Linked pages show the updated .FLT data regions with blue squares and a red blackslash (\). The graphic also depicts the older data files (not updated) using the .BIL formatted data with a black box with red forward slash (/).
