Q: I created an area grid file of X-Y-Z values in TAP, now how do I open it in Excel?
A: After you have created the file using the Area Grid function in TAP, or the Topo Grid function in QuickPath, you can open the file directly in Excel.
Using the Excel File-Open menu, on the Open dialog box, set the "File of Type" to "All Files", then browse to find the file you created.
Excel will recognize that the file is not in the native .XLS format and will prompt you for information about how you want the data to be imported.
First, select the "Delimited" option in Excel.
Click the Next button.
Then select the delimiter as "Comma"
Click the Next button.
Finally, select the "General" data format.
Click the "Finish" button.
The values will be imported into the Excel columns:
To save the file, use the Excel File-Save menu, and specify the file type as an Excel Worksheet. Be sure to change the name of the file when you save it to use the .XLS file extent so Excel (ort other applications) will recognize the file as a Worksheet.
