Restore Topographic Index Files

Q:  How can I restore a topo elevation index file I removed with the ReIndex function?

A:  With TAP6.0.2319 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of August 31, 2009, or later, you can save and later restore Topographic Elevation index files removed with the ReIndex function.

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

TAP uses an index of the available topographic elevation data files.  The index is created with the index function in the Configuration menu.  This function is used whenever you add new data files to your TAP system.

The ReIndex function is used to remove the index and create a new index.  For example, if you remove topo elevation data files from your TAP system, or relocate files, the ReIndex function is used for a “fresh start” on the index.

The Restore function is used to recover an index file previously removed using the ReIndex function.

Note that restoring the old index with this function assumes that all of the topographic elevation data files referenced in the index are still available in the same locations.

The indexing functions are opened from the Configuration menu in TAP by clicking the “Topo Data” item:

The Index Topographic Data Files form is displayed.

To use the Restore function, click the “Restore Previous Index” button:

A list of previously replaced index files will be displayed:

Note that for index files replaced with earlier versions, the replaced names are of the form

SWSRCIDXyyyymmddhhmmss.DBF

where

yyyymmdd represents the date, and

hhmmss represents the time the file was replaced with the ReIndex command.

Select the file you want, and click the Continue button.

With the new Restore function enabled, the ReIndex function will include a dialog box asking if you want to save the current index, which is about to be deleted

When you click the Yes button, you will have the opportunity to enter a more meaningful file name for future reference:

Using these more meaningful index names will be helpful in managing topo data index files:

You can remove unwanted saved index files using the Delete button.  Click the index file (one file at a time only is allowed) and click the Delete button.
