Topo Data Selection for Site Elevations

Q:  How can I specify what type of topographic elevation data should be used for my site elevation values?

A:  With TAP6.0.2347 or later you can set the configuration for which topo elevation data types are used when looking up a site elevation.

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

By default, TAP uses the highest resolution of all available data types when looking up the site elevation for a Fixed Facility record.

If you want to configure the software so that only some data types are used for site elevation lookups, click the Configuration menu in TAP, then select “Topo Scripts for Site Elevation.”

Each topo data type has a “script” associated with the data.  The scripts you select determine what data types will be used.

By default, all data types are used for site elevation lookups.

You can select and de-select data format types if you only want certain types to be used for site elevation lookups.

Click the Continue button to save the new configuration settings.

Note that when looking up site elevations if the selected data type(s) are not available for the desired location, the “Elevation Not Found” message will be displayed, even if the site elevation information is available in other, non-selected data formats.

Unless there are specific reasons for selecting only certain data format types, the usual setting is to use all available data for site elevation information.  TAP will automatically select the available data with the highest resolution when looking up site elevations.
