Multiple Fresnel Zones in HDPath

Q:  How can I show multiple Fresnel zones on a path profile?

A:  With TAP6.0.2167 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of May 31, 2007, or later, in HDPath you can draw Fresnel zones with more than one n value and more than one ratio value.

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

For example, suppose you have a path profile drawn between two sites

By default, the profile is drawn with half of the first Fresnel zone, 0.5 F1.  The zone (n) number or the ratio can be changed by entering the desired value.

With the latest version of TAP, you can enter multiple values in either (or both) of the boxes to draw multiple Fresnel zones.  For example, suppose you want to see both the 0.5 and the 0.6 ratio of the first Fresnel zone to check for obstruction losses.  Enter the two values, separated by a space:

When you move the mouse cursor out of the Ratio data box, TAP accepts the values and draws the specified Fresnel zone ratios:

On the other hand, you may specify multiple zone numbers, for example, to display several even numbered Fresnel zones to check for possible reflection points.  Enter the desired values for the zone numbers, and set the Ratio value to 1.0:

The specified zone numbers will be drawn when you move the mouse cursor out of the Number data input box:

When you print the profile, the list of zone numbers or ratios are shown with the Fresnel zone information (if the Fresnel zone is checked in the “Profile Print Fields” under the HDPath Configuration menu):

Antenna Elevation

Note that if multiple zone number or ratio values are specified when the Antenna Elevation calculation is used, only the first value in the list is used for the calculations:
