TAP™ is a Windows application and can run on any 64-bit Windows desktop computer (e.g., Win 7, Win 8, Win 10) and Windows Server. In order to get the best performance out of the latest TAP™ software, it is recommended that computers have at least 8 GB of RAM. Note that Microsoft discontinued all support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. Since that date, SoftWright has no longer backtested new software releases for Windows XP operation.
Any modern computer hardware will suffice for running TAP™. However, if your elevation data will reside on an external hard drive, then performance will be much better using a USB-3 port for accessing the external drive rather than USB-2 and the best performance will be provided when the elevation data are stored on a Solid State (SSD) external drive. Fortunately, USB-3 ports are now standard on most computers and pre-loaded SSDs are available from SoftWright. If your elevation data will be stored on the local hard drive, then performance will be improved with a high-speed drive (e.g., 7200 rpm drive will perform better than a 5400 rpm drive) or an internal SSD.
