Uninstalling TAP6
Q: When I move TAP to a new machine, how do I uninstall it from the old machine?
A: The Windows Control Panel “Add or Remove Programs” function will remove the TAP software.
Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only. You should determine appropriate settings for your application.
If you have any information that you want to save (such as Fixed Facility database, Area Coverage Studies or coverage maps you have created) on the machine where TAP is being removed, refer to the Moving TAP to a New Machine article before uninstalling TAP.
From the Windows Control Panel, select the “Add or Remove Programs” option. When the Add or Remove Programs form is displayed, scroll down to find the “Terrain Analysis Package” entry. Click that entry to highlight it, and click the “Change/Remove” button:
On the confirmation form, click Yes:
The uninstall program will display files that may be shared among different programs:
As the Windows message explains, the uninstall program has determined that the files (listed one at a time on this form – see below) are used only by TAP and not other applications, so removing the file should not have any affect on other applications installed on your computer. However, if any of the files actually are used by other components, removing them is not recommended. While the Windows “Add or Remove Programs” function is usually accurate, if you have any doubts you should follow the suggestion on the message and choose not to remove the shared component.
The files typically removed during the un-install process for TAP are listed below.
The progress of the un-install will be shown:
When the process is completed, click the OK button.
The “Add or Remove Programs” function removes the application and component files, but several folders and database files created by TAP may be left on the machine in the folder where TAP was initially installed.
You can delete all these files and folders and remove the folder where TAP was installed (usually C:\SWTAP by default).
The following files will typically be displayed for the “Remove Shared File?” dialog box. Some of these files may not be present depending on the TAP modules or components you have installed:
