TAP Results in Other Software
Q: How can I use the results from a TAP coverage study as a DBF file in other software?
A: You can use the results computed in TAP in a dBase (.DBF) file in other software since TAP creates a DBF file as a result of the coverage study.
Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only. You should determine appropriate settings for your application.
You should always copy the file and use the copy for any other applications you are using, since changes you make to the file that TAP creates may cause problems if you try to use the file again in TAP.
When you run a coverage study, the Task ID that is assigned is used for several file names. The results computed for field strength are saved in the WORK folder, in a file named Rxxxxxxx.DBF, where xxxxxxx represents the Task ID, such as R0000001.DBF
Note that the first record in the file is usually a special record showing the latitude and longitude of the transmitter site for the study.
The results database (RDB) includes fields for:
· Latitude of the location for each field calculation (RDB_LAT)
· Longitude of the location (RDB_LON)
· Azimuth from the transmitter site (RDB_AZ)
· Distance (in kilometers) from the transmitter site (RDB_DIS)
· Field strength (in dBu) at the location (RDB_VAL)
In some cases, additional values are included:
· Elevation (in meters) of the location (RDB_ELV)
· Land Use Classification for the location (RDB_LUCODE)
· Loss from Land Use function (RDB_LULOSS)
You can open the copy of the file, for example, in FoxPro or other dBase editor:
You can also open the file in Excel:
