Reinstalling TAP

Q: After re-installing TAP after a hard disk crash, the program only works in DEMO mode. How do I correct this?

A: When you install TAP on a new computer, use the following steps.

If you are moving TAP to a different machine, or installing on your notebook (which is permitted under our license agreement) you need to first perform the complete installation, either from our CD or from the CD_DEMO file on our web site (a little over 100Mb).

The file can be downloaded, then executed. It is a self-extracting installation program.

You should have a file named SWCONFIG.DTA, probably on a floppy disk labeled "User License Configuration File", or in the folder where you previously had TAP installed.

When the software is first installed from the CD on a new system, the license file (SWCONFIG.DTA) installed is the demo file. You can copy the file from your floppy disk or old TAP installation to overwrite that file and put TAP into the normal licensed mode.

If you don't have the floppy disk or can't find the file, please let us know and we can email a new one to you.

After the original installation from a CD (or the DEMO_CD file), I suggest you download the current Maintenance Release from our web site at:

http://www.softwright.com

There is a link to the Maintenance Release file at the bottom of the first page.

"The latest TAP maintenance release is ___ posted on __/__/___"

Download the file (UPDATE.EXE) and run it to install the new software into the same folder where TAP is already installed, usually the \SWTAP folder.

When you installed the software on the new machine, if you used just the "Update" from our web site and not the "Complete" installation from our CD, the program will not function correctly.

The update from our web site does not include all of the components for the TAP system, and is intended only to update existing systems that were installed from our CD.

If your installation was from the UPDATE.EXE file, you can install TAP from the latest CD that you have, installing the software in the same folder (typically \SWTAP). Then you can run the UPDATE.EXE file again to ensure the latest versions of the files are installed.
