DirectX Version Issue
Q: When I try to run the 3DDisplay function, the program continues to prompt me to install DirectX, even after it has been installed.
A: TAP is looking for the version information for Microsoft DirectX and is not finding the expected value.
As part of the 3DD Module in TAP, you can also use the Google Earth option which does not use the TAP 3DD function and avoids this problem.
If DirectX has been installed (or is already present) on your machine, as required by the 3DDisplay function, you can add a line to a configuration file to avoid this problem.
(1) In
the folder where TAP is installed, find the file named
SWTAP32.INI
(if the file is not there, create a new text file with that name)
(2) Edit
the file with notepad or another text editor and find the line:
[3DDisplay]
(if the line is not there, add it to the top of the file)
(3) Below
the 3DDDisplay section line, add the line:
ForceDirectX=-1
That will force the program to use the later version of DirectX that is already there - the 3DD function is looking for an earlier version and is getting confused. This work-around should solve the problem.
