Copying TAP Files
Q: When I changed Operating Systems from Windows NT to XP, I copied all the files in my SWTAP folder to a network drive, then after installing the new OS, copied them back. Now I get several errors about "dependencies" and files "not properly registered", "automation not supported", "ActiveX component can't create object", etc. How do I fix this?
A: This is similar to the process of moving TAP to a different machine described in the Moving TAP FAQ. The files in the folder where TAP is installed is only part of what is needed. Like most Windows program, there are distributed components in other folders.
You need to run the Setup program from a recent TAP CD to install and register all the other components with the new operating system. You can get a current copy of the CD by contacting our office, or by downloading the file from our web site:
http://www.softwright.com/ftp/CD_DEMO.EXE
The file can be downloaded, then executed. It is a self-extracting installation program.
If you install the software on a machine that has your older version of TAP installed, be sure to install the new software in the same folder (typically C:\SWTAP). Installing a new copy of the software in a different folder (resulting in two copies on the same machine) will confuse the Windows Registry and cause problems later running the software.
If you did the complete installation from the CD and you still have the problem, take a look at the FAQ on our web site:
http://www.softwright.com/faq\support\bug_reports.html
This FAQ includes suggestions for the kind of detailed information you can send me to help me understand what you are trying to do and the problem you encountered. Also, there is a description of several files you can email to me so I can see the way your software is set up and the parameters of the study you are having a problem with. This will help me diagnose the problem and provide some suggestions.
If you do the installation from a recent CD or our web site, then install the update from our web site to be on the current build, you should be ok. Just be sure all the installations go into the same folder where you have TAP installed now.
