Transmission Line Library Lookup

Q: How do I find transmission line information in TAP?

A: The transmission line lookup function enables you to find the line you want in the TAP library files and compute a loss value for the line. (If the line you need is not in the library, you can use the transmission line editor function to enter the line parameters from the manufacturer’s specifications.)

You can compute transmssion line loss from the Utilities menu:

A form will be displayed to select the transmission line library file you want to use.

Note that this form is included in TAP 4.3 and later. This version provides a description, or "alias" for the transmssion line files. You can edit the descriptions to make them more useful for your work.

Earlier versions of TAP do not include the "alias" feature. The file must be selected as listed below:

After the desired library file has been selected (by either method) a list of the transmission lines the file is displayed.

You can enter a line length and the corresponding loss value will be computed.

This line loss function is available from a number of locations in the TAP program. For example, in the Fixed Facility lookup function, either under the "ERP/Antenna Lookup" for the transmitter, or the "Required Field Lookup" for the receiver, you can use the line loss lookup to select the line and compute the corresponding loss:

Either of these lookup functions will display the Miscellaneous Losses\Gains Lookup form.

When the cursor is in the RX Line 1 or RX Line 2 field, clicking the "Line Loss Lookup" button displays the form for selecting the transmission line library file as described above.
