Q: How do I determine power density at a location?

A: The derivation for power density as a function of field strength (in dBu) is shown:

By definition, field strength in dBu is dB above one microvolt:

By definition, power density is Watts per square meter:

Impedance of free-space is 377 Ohms:

For example, for a field strength of 45dBu, the power density is 8.388 x 10-11 W/m2. To obtain the value in dBW/ m2, take 10Log of that value.
