TAP AutoCoverage Module - Scheduled for Release in
December.
Ever want to run 10, 20 or 50 coverage maps without having to
set up each study individually with the normal TAP user interface?
The newly developed AutoCoverage module will do just that. It is an
add-on module to any current TAP system that already can calculate
radio coverage maps.
You can prepare an input file in an Excel spreadsheet or ASCII
file and then import it into TAP and all the desired coverages may
be calculated without setting up the details tasks manually and set
them to run at a later time. This has been a long-requested
capability that has emerged as a new module to be released in
December 2005. As with all new modules, you must be on a current
software maintenance subscription to add this new module. It relies
on compatibility with the latest developments in the TAP software.
For a quotation to add AutoCoverage to your TAP system, contact
Mr. Curt Alway at SoftWright. He will provide you with a quotation
on this new module as well, as a TAP software maintenance
subscription, if you do not presently have one.

Year |
| |
For all of you on who have been on a software
maintenance subscription for the past 12 months, you have
recieved 13 significant enhancements to your TAP system. These
have included a great deal of innovation in the presentation
of a completely new map window, which has the capability of
detailed street mapping using Shapefiles for displaying
information that was previously contained in our TAP boundary
files. These new files can contain much associated demographic
information that can be viewed within TAP, as well.
For a quotation on putting your TAP system on the latest
version for the next year and also picking up all the past
enhancements, please contact Softwright. In order to review

Use Body Losses in Calculation of
Talk-Back. |
| |
Calculation of a coverage map from a repeater site out
to mobile units is considered the basic building block of
radio system design. Once this process is mastered, the next
level of sophistication is to study the variance of that
talk-out radio coverage with the effective talk-back coverage.
This is almost never the same coverage area as the talk-out
coverage. A number of factors must be taken into account. The
ERP of the mobile unit will generally be considerably less
than that of the repeater. The receiver threshold of the
repeater is generally higher than that of the mobile units,
which are used in establishing a suitable talk-out signal
level. It is very common for the rf link loss to change once
the mobile unit has been contacted by the repeater. At that
point, if it is a hand-held unit, it is removed from contact
with the user's body and the actual body losses can be much
less. The FAQ linked below will give you assistance in
properly handling these particular situations when you are
calculating coverage with your TAP software.
