Terrain Analysis Package (TAP)TM

Sample Output Files from TAP

In many situations, you might wish to export certain output files from TAP so that they may be used with other software. For that reason, SoftWright is pleased to offer the following sample files which were created from within TAP.   You can download and review them for compatibility of these files with software that you might have or are considering using in connection with TAP. These represent only certain particular file configurations, although many are available.

For example, you can define a rectangular geographic area bounded by an area 2.5 mile north, south, east and west from the location of 39 40 45.3 North Latitude, 104 5 31.5 West Longitude. For purposes of this example file we have calculated an evenly spaced grid with both north and south intervals of 0.05 miles and ground elevation in feet. Using TAP you can specify the elevation to be in either feet or meters and distances to be in miles, feet, kM or meters. Your x and y references can be in either geographic coordinates (UTM or lat/long) or in distances from a corner of the reference area or any point with a geographic reference.

We have provided two completely different file layouts with exactly the same geographic specifications listed above. One is a grid file that can be read directly into Surfer(tm) and contoured into a two-dimensional topographic map or 3-dimensional surface plot. This file can also be used with SoftWright's 3D Display module to view terrain and radio coverage maps draped over a three-dimensional terrain plot.  The second is a simple ASCII file containing latitude, longitude and elevation. This format can be used as input to a great many software packages where georeferenced ground elevations are required.  These sample files are self-extracting zip files.  After downloading them, execute them to obtain them in the form ready to view and use.

In order to identify precise geographic locations on coverage maps TAP uses .BNA (Boundary files. These are ASCII files that can contain georeferenced locations. These files can consist of a series of discrete geographic locations with name associated with each one. They can also be series of points that the TAP software can connect to form lines such as roads and political boundaries. The following file contains an example of all the county boundaries for the state of Colorado. TAP not only imports and uses these files in mapping, but also provides several ways to create and edit your own custom boundary files.  This sample file is a self-extracting zip file.  After downloading it, execute them to obtain it.
