Other Data Files

The Terrain Data Files are used in calculation of received field strength.   There are several other types of data files that are used in the TAP software to facilitate meaningful results as well as quality presentations.

ShapeFiles

When you want to plot presentation maps of the predicted field strength you will need additional types of files that are geo-referenced locations of such things as civil  geographic boundaries, streets,  and highways.   TAP uses ShapeFiles for plotting this type of information.  Demographic information may also be included within these shape files as well.

Shipping with every TAP system is our library of basic shapefiles for the USA, Canada, Mexico, South America and Europe.

The files for the USA include 1990 block population, cities, counties, gnis buildings (NOT as obstacle files), highways, railroads, rivers, roads, urbanized areas, US routes, water bodies and water areas.

For Canada these map backgrounds include roads, rivers, railroads and places.

For Mexico these map backgrounds include cities, roads, rivers, railroads, water and places

For South America these map backgrounds include only Ecuador at this time.

For Europe these map backgrounds include cities, urban areas, places, railroads, rivers, roads, water and major urban areas.

TAP is designed to work with any shapefile that you may have in this format. For additional information on how to add shapefiles to your TAP maps see http://www.softwright.com/faq/support/hdm_adding_layers.html for the details.

Below are the additional types of ShapeFiles that we offer that provide much greater localized information, which is important to many of our customers:

ShapeFiles of streets for all 50 US states

ShapeFiles of streets for individual US states

ShapeFiles for 2000 US census population for all 50 US states

ShapeFiles for 2000 US census population for any 6 US states

ShapeFiles for 2000 US census population by individual US state

Land Use

Land Use data requires the use of the Land Use TAP module.  Used together, they will enable you to find the land classification of a particular area and apply it to many calculations done in TAP.  For more detailed information click here.  These files may be purchased in the following ways:

Land Use files for 48 CONUS states on CD-ROM

Land Use files for small regions (areas same as on 30 meter CD-ROMSs)
