Exporting Coverage Ranges

Q:  Can I export an area coverage Tile or Radial study but only include a range of values?

A:  With TAP6.0.2320 or later and a Maintenance Subscription date of September 30, 2009, or later, you can select a minimum and/or maximum value for the dBu field strength, and only points in that range will be exported.

Note that all values in this example are for demonstration purposes only.  You should determine appropriate settings for your application.

For example, some third-party software may allow you to import a dBase (.DBF) type database file, but not provide a way to select ranges of colors for different levels.  If you export separate files for different field strength levels, you may be able to import each file with a different colors to display the coverage.

In the Area menu of TAP, select the “Export Coverage to DBF” (or “Export Coverage to ASCII”) item.

The filter option is not available for the “Export Coverage to Grid” item, since the grid format requires a complete set of the data.

On the Task to Open form, select the completed area coverage study you want to export.  Then click the Continue button.

With the filter option a form will be displayed, first to select the MINIMUM value to be exported.  Note that the minimum and maximum values contained in the results database for the study are displayed:

Enter the MINIMUM value you want to export, then click the OK button:

Then the form for the MAXIMUM value is displayed:

Enter the MAXIMUM value you want to export and click the OK button.

You will be prompted to enter a file name for the exported data.  You may want to add the range values to the file name for future reference:

Click the Save button and the data values in the range you selected will be exported to the file.
