Reinstalling TAP Update

Q: I  re-installed TAP after a hard disk crash. Now I get several errors about "dependencies" and files "not properly registered", "automation not supported", "ActiveX component can't create object", etc. How do I fix this?

A: This can happen if you install only the UPDATE.EXE file from our web site, without first installing the complete TAP system from one of our CDs.

When you installed the software, if you used just the "Update" from our web site and not the "Complete" installation from our CD, the program will not function correctly.  The update from our web site does not include all of the components for the TAP system, and is intended only to update existing systems that were installed from our CD.

If your installation was from the UPDATE.EXE file, you can install TAP from the latest CD that you have, installing the software in the same folder (typically \SWTAP). Then you can run the UPDATE.EXE file again to ensure the latest versions of the files are installed.

You need to run the Setup program from a recent TAP CD to install and register all the other components on the computer. You can get a current copy of the CD by contacting our office, or by downloading the file from our web site:

http://www.softwright.com/ftp/CD_DEMO.EXE

The file can be downloaded, then executed. It is a self-extracting installation program.

Anytime you install the software on a machine that already has TAP installed, be sure to install the new software in the same folder (typically C:\SWTAP).  Installing a new copy of the software in a different folder (resulting in two copies on the same machine) will confuse the Windows Registry and cause problems later running the software.

If you did the complete installation from the CD and you still have the problem, take a look at the FAQ on our web site:

This FAQ includes suggestions for the kind of detailed information you can send me to help me understand what you are trying to do and the problem you encountered. Also, there is a description of several files you can email to me so I can see the way your software is set up and the parameters of the study you are having a problem with. This will help me diagnose the problem and provide some suggestions.
