HDPath VHF/UHF Link Budget

Q:  How do I use HDPath™ to compute a link budget for my VHF or UHF path?

A:  TAP systems (Version 5.0.1060 and later) with a Maintenance Subscription date of July 31, 2005 or later, and that include the UHF/VHF Link Budget module can use HDPath to compute the path link budget.

Note that all values shown in this article are for illustration purposes only.  It is important that you use good engineering judgment to determine the values that are appropriate for your equipment and specific application.

You should start by drawing the profile between the endpoints of the path, as described in HDPath Introduction.

In the Propagation Model section of the “Path Settings” select the propagation model and parameter template you want to use for computing path loss values:

To compute the link budge, click the VHF/UHF Link Budget button:

The Microwave Link Budget form is displayed:

You can enter loss values or make changes to the facilities or other settings on the HDPath form, and the changes are updated to the link budget calculations:

You can print the link budget with the Print menu, or you can write the information to a comma-delimited (.CSV) file that can be edited with other software, such as Microsoft Excel.
