Map Digitization

If no prepared DEM files are available in your desired area with sufficient resolution for your particular type of work, and you can obtain paper maps, you can send them to SoftWright for a quotation to have digital elevation models created from the maps. The process is somewhat time consuming and expensive, especially if the geographic region is very large. Upon receipt of the maps, we will prepare a price quotation for the project. The cost, to a great extent, will depend on the size and number of maps that are digitized. We prefer to digitize from maps that are of a scale of no greater than 1:100,000. Maps with a scale of 1:24,000 can be used to produce excellent DEMs. We will be happy to quote the cost to digitize whatever maps you have available. The cost can vary between $600 and $1200 per map for this process. Maps that include only topography contours without roads are the least expensive to use in this process. The resolution to which we normally grid the data for these custom files is 30 meters. This gives excellent replication of the elevation data in the software. The cost of the preparation of the DEM will not include digitization of the boundary information (roads, rivers etc.) that are usually printed on the paper maps. These too can be prepared if you wish for an additional cost.
