Sample Digital Elevation Files for Download
The following files may be downloaded at no cost to you for the purposes of testing compatibility of topography data files (DEMs - digital elevation models) with your software. ALL FILES ARE SELF EXTRACTING ARCHIVE FORMAT (to uncompress, execute the file). For details of the SoftWright open architecture formats for each of these SoftWright binary files, please check the Terrain Data File Format page. ASCII File formats are established by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). All files available from this page are in self-extracting zip files. After downloading, simply click on the file name through Explore and the file will expand back to full size. Please check the availability of particular files by checking the worldtopo.html page.
1 arc-second resolution
This file will cover the region from 39 45 0 North 105 0 0 West
to the location 7 ½ minutes north and west from that point.
It is the equivalent area of a 7 ½ topographic map. This
resolution is available in all of the USA, including Alaska and Hawaii.

30 meter resolution
This file will cover the region from 39 0 0 North 105 0 0 West
to the location 7 ½ minutes north and west from that point.
It is the equivalent area of a 7 ½ topographic map. This

3 arc-second resolution
This file will cover the area of one degree by one degree with
the Southeast corner located at 30 0 0 North 105 0 0 West. The
grid intervals will be spaced on 3 arc-seconds - approximately
100 meters.
30 arc-second resolution
This file also will cover the area of one degree by one degree
with the Southeast corner located at 30 0 0 North 105 0 0 West.
The grid intervals will be spaced on 30 arc-second points - approximately
1000 meters.
