SoftWright Topographic Elevation Data Conversion Services

Digitized topographic point elevation data bases can usually be converted to the SoftWright TAP™ file format under the following conditions:

The fee for data conversion is based on the original format of the data files and the desired data resolution.

For 3-second resolution TAP files:
Original data in Lat/Lon units: $300 per TAP one degree block
Original data in other units: $500 per TAP one degree block
For 30-meter resolution TAP files:
Original data in UTM coords: $300 per TAP 7-1/2 minute quad
Original data in other units: $500 per TAP 7-1/2 minute quad

Minimum fee for data conversion is $1,500. (Data files in standard USGS DEM formats may be converted at reduced rates.) All data conversion services are pre-paid.

Complete documentation (in English) for the original files must be supplied, including all file format information, header description, record length, grid structure, sequence of values in the file, elevation units (feet or meters), etc. Special conditions (e.g., unusual data formats, bit-encoded data flags, etc.) may increase the data conversion fees.

All map projection parameters for converting the original data to the required TAP file units (lat/lon for 3-second files, UTM for 30-meter files) must be supplied. These parameters will depend on the type of map projection used, but typically include items such as

The user is responsible for providing all necessary map projection information. SoftWright assumes no responsibility for ensuring that the necessary parameters are provided, or that the parameters provided by the user are correct. All conditions relating to the map parameters to be converted must be provided by the user.

If available, a paper topographic map of part of the area represented by the data files should be provided for cross-checking during the conversion process.

Data conversion will require a minimum of 30 days from the receipt of the digitized data and all required file format and map projection parameters in the SoftWright office.

Source of provided digitized data must be provided to SoftWright. Signature below affirms that the signer has the legal right to use the digitized data provided for conversion and that signer has the legal authority to permit SoftWright to resell the data to any other parties.

SoftWright will retain the exclusive right to re-sell the data in the SoftWright format to other parties.
